today is world down syndrome day.
people all over are celebrating their friends and family with that extra special designer gene.
as much as i would love to sit here tonight and write something lovely and moving about my little boy or my life as a special needs mom, the words just aren't coming.
and i think it's because, yea, down syndrome is a part of our lives, but it certainly isn't our life.
ya know what i mean?
our day was just like any other day. filled with:
tired kiddos who didn't want to go back to school today,
feeling sad because we said goodbye to our awesome nj family last night,
feeling tired and windblown and a little sunburnt,
back to hearing the alarm clock,
speech therapy,
work, work, and some homework,
leftovers for dinner,
playing on the swing and the neighbor's trampoline,
listening to my kids laugh and giggle while watching tv together,
cuddling with a sweet boy on the sofa just before bed time.
just an ordinary day.
i suppose in some ways our ordinary day could be seen as a celebration.
a celebration of simple times.
a celebration of healthy times.
a celebration of happy times.
ordinary and special all the same.
ben is, and continues to be, a bright shining force in our home.
ben is celebrated here, each and every single day.
in fact, if you can believe it, our boy ben turns 4 this saturday!
let the party planning begin! :)

Love the pictures of him, gazing up at you. Beautiful!
I echo in agreement.
Down syndrome is a part of our life, but it is not our life.
Hugs to you!!!!
Amy, that was both lovely and moving:)
So glad to have found you on Under the Sycamore :)
Happy birthday to Ben! My little boy, Matty, shares a birthday with him. He'll turn two on Saturday.
Hope you all have a lovely birthday weekend. XOXO
