summer bridge.

about a month ago, i stumbled across summer bridge activities workbooks.
they are grade-specific activities geared at helping your child retain what they learned this past school year while working towards preparing for the next.
i ordered one for each of the kiddos.

i asked them to pick TWO days each week when they will dedicate some time to working in the workbooks.
no surprise they all picked different days, but that's just fine.
i have more time to help one-on-one when i'm needed.

it's been about two weeks of doing this.
so far it's pure torture for josh (no surprise there).
anna loves it more than life.
ben could care less either way but will sit and tolerate it for me.

when the last report cards came home, i was shocked when i noticed how low their test scores were after last summer compared to the end year.
i hope spending just an hour or so each week will help bridge that gap.

you can find summer bridge books HERE.
if this idea doesn't make the most popular mom in the world, what will??!?!?
bwahahhahaha!
:)

What a great idea! We'll be looking into these for sure. Today is day 2 of my 7yr old's summer vacation so we're not that far into our break yet:)
We're BIG on reading around here, esp in the summer to KEEP them reading. I just got a new series for the girls this morning.

as a teacher i can tell you that this is one of THE best things parents can do during summer. and your timing is perfect. two days a week is very reasonable. i also do this with my little guy but he's young enough that it's still considered fun...lol.
