that first one made me choke back some tears. i grew up with a sister with special needs (severe retardation) and kids would make fun of her. i'd beat them up. i was FIERCELY protective.
now, as a mom of 4, i have two adopted children with special needs (emotional disabilities.) they came from abuse backgrounds. but here's the kicker: now i'm on the other side of the fence. my two adopted children struggle with relating to others, and with impulse control and agression, which sometimes comes across as cruelty.
i am, in fact, sometimes living that "worst thing."
amazingly, it's actually brought me full circle: to learn how NOT to judge those who might end up seeming unkind. We never know what baggage they carry. God has a sense of humor....and can really stretch us.
