happy friday

this afternoon i decorated my dining room table with some pretty pumpkins from target.

i love the soft colors and distressed look that make them look more realistic than the traditional orange pumpkins.

don't get me wrong, i love orange pumpkins. they just don't go with the color scheme going on in here.

i also got these twiggy pumpkins too. they look so pretty with the hydrangeas i cut from my garden, don't ya think?

while i was downstairs playing, another star wars battle was going on upstairs.

josh was making all the sound effect noises.
bleeep. vrrrrttt! pppwwahh!

the saga continues...

later on, buck started barking like crazy and we discovered we had a little visitor right outside our front door. a momma rabbit!

the older kiddos tried to sneak up on her, but she was so quick!

she ran right through our fence and into our little vegetable garden.

tonight is movie night again.

tonight it's...

oh you'll never guess...

STAR WARS!

can we talk decorating for a minute?

i was cleaning up my desktop on my computer tonight and opened this picture:

can i just tell you why this is one of my most favorite kitchen pics of all time?
oh, the white cabinets, the incredible light fixtures, the wicker chairs, the upholstered chairs, that gorgeous clock...

i love all of it.
but what gets me the most is the way the kitchen is not matchy matchy.
no cookie cutter kitchen here.
it's the mix, the way it looks acquired over time that makes it special.

this is what i hope to achieve in my home. some day.

it's ok to mix wicker chairs with upholstered.
it's ok to not have matching light fixtures.
it's ok to go BIG with accessories.
it's ok to mix styles and colors and finishes.

do what you love because it's your home. got it? good. :)

whew, i feel better now that i got that off my chest.

i don't want to forget...

josh is old enough now to sleep without a night light.

ben loves that new black eyed peas song and moves his hips like elvis when he hears it.

i love ben's new buzz cut hairdo.

anna has a new best friend every day. i'm so happy she likes school and is making new friends.

john is trying to convince me to buy a jeep. again.

josh thinks that listening to the president speak is boring. i'm glad. he's only seven and truthfully, it is boring.

this past weekend, the older kids made out their christmas lists. yes, they did.

ben likes me to rub his head and run my fingers through his hair while he falls asleep.

anna is obsessed with drawing and reading and homework. i know this too shall pass.

ben's teachers want him to start potty training next week. they are brave. i am not.
